Some treks are organized from Cuzco, others from Abancay or Cachora. Although there are several other alternatives. The cities of Abancay and Cachora are closest to the ruins.
Most often, the walking trips to the ruins of Choquequirao start south (at a spot in or near Cachora) and move north to the archaeological site. This is not a trip that follows the Inca Trail, although, you may encounter parts of this road system during your trip.
