Spectacular Gigantic Geoglyphs
The Nazca Lines are called "geoglyphs" by the specialists. These gigantic drawings are located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru.
The famous Nazca geoglyphs are on UNESCO's World Heritage List and are protected by the Peruvian Government.
The Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca Civilization between 200 BC and 700 AD. The drawings were literally carved into the ground and into the sides of mountains.
Specialists like archaeologists and ethnologists believe that these
beautiful lines, which can only be seen from aircraft and satellite, had
been created by the ancients to be seen from the sky, by their gods... Astronomers believe that the drawings are the reconstructions of
actually constellations. For instance, the giant spider figure bears a
striking similarity to the Orion constellation. Swiss writer Erich von Däniken suggest the Nazca Lines are proof that the Nazca Civilization had possessed high level technological knowledge. He believes that the lines were ancient runways for alien spacecraft. Erich von Däniken's theories about extraterrestrial activity is interesting however, without any reliable proof. Astronomer, Carl Sagan, has affirmed "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" - referring to the fact that Däniken doesn't provide any concrete, undisputable evidence to his claims.
Getting There
You will have to get to Ica or Nazca. We recommend you Nazca, which is closer to the Nazca Lines, but Nazca has no proper bus station, so getting there will be rather difficult. The best way is to take a bus from Cuzco, Lima or Arequipa to Ica.

Ica as well. |
