The Natural Habitat, the Geography
Peru has over 20 peaks that are above 6.000 m. It is an Andean country... In fact, Peru is has much of the Andes' most beautiful locations and receives many foreign hikers every year who risk putting their bodies to the test at high altitudes.
Despite the fact that Peru is an Andean country, it does have vast plains, pastures... Some of them are deserts, others are green and used for agriculture.
Peru hast them all: in some parts you will feel like in the Sahara Desert, then you can dive into the Pacific Ocean to cool down or take a wild trip into the Amazonian region, climb the tall snow-peaked mountains, take a hike in a semi-desert area and admire the cactuses...
The sheer variety of landscape forms and wide variety of plant and animal species make Peru a country where you can keep on visiting for 3 months and still only get a taste of what is there...
The Cultural Heritage
Peru is renowned for its unique Andean music and for its ancient Inca heritage. But there's more to Peru than just these!
Peru has rich colonial architectural treasures: almost 500 year-old churches, palaces and houses from the Spanish colonial era. Some parts of Peru look as good as Spanish cities... But there's a slight twist, something more exotic and more colourful in Peruvian architecture.
Peru has many many, almost uncountable archaeological sites... These include fortresses, temples, towns, pyramids, geoglyphs... And they belong to a wide variety of ancient pre-Columbian cultures: Mochica, Inca, Chimú, Moche, Huari (Wari), Nazca, Norte Chico and others.
Peru is culturally diverse... Incredibly diverse... |
