Getting to Llactapata (Llaqtapata)

Overview: This is exclusively an archaeological complex, not a town. Llactapata is located in the Urubamba Valley, close to the railway line that connects Cuzco to Aguas Calientes. Some maps will call this area "Llaqtapata" or "Patallacta".

GPS Coordinates:

Latitude: 13º 13' 50.53" S

Longitude: 72º 25' 31.42" W

By Air: Fly in to Cuzco and then take the train to the train to the Km.88 location near the Inca Trail.

By Rail: The railway line from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes runs close to this site, just across the Urubamba River. Many trains won't stop at Llactapata, though the ones that will stop, will leave you at the Km 88 mark, where the hikers who take the long Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu set off for their trip.

By Road: There are no roads available for cars, the ancient Inca Trail still remains the main road for hikers and for those arriving on horseback.
